Affordable Health Care Act - What It Means for Individuals

In this session we will cover the highlights of the Affordable Care Act and how it relates to individuals using real world examples. This session will provide you with the knowledge necessary and critical to working with your individual taxpayer clients on how this Act will affect them personally. We will discuss the differences between minimum essential coverage and family versus individual coverage. In addition, you will also be able to determine the individual penalty for a taxpayer for not having minimum essential health coverage.


Upon completion of this session, you will be able to:
  • Determine the individual penalty for not having a qualified health plan.

  • Reconcile the premium assistance credit on the Form 1040.

  • Compute 1040 estimates and withholdings to account for the Medicare tax on investment and earned income in 2013
