Investments - Details:

Reporting the sale of stock seems relatively straightforward. However, there are many other types of investments that can complicate reporting. Taxpayers can purchase stock options, such as puts and calls, to hedge their current investment position or can receive stock options as compensation. Attend this session to gain an understanding of the various types of investments that can complicate investment reporting.

Upon completion of the session, you will be able to:
  1. Summarize the basic rights of a put or call holder.
  2. Report the tax consequences when a put is exercised, sold or expired.
  3. Report the tax consequences when a call is exercised, sold or expired.
  4. List the common types of employee stock option plans available.
  5. Explain the proper calculation and reporting of compensation associated with the grant, vesting and exercise of an option.
  6. Report the disposition of employer stock acquired via a stock option.
